With so many awesome Asian cosmetics out there, it can be hard to choose which ones you really need to buy. Once you do a little research and go with a well known brand, you can’t go too wrong in terms of quality and price. So what makes one particular product stand out from the crowd?
To be completely honest, I’m a sucker for adorable packaging. In particular, anything with a cat on it! Luckily, there’s no shortage of beautiful products with feline motifs. In fact, I’ve found around 50 of them in my online shopping adventures. Ellie has kindly invited me to share my top 5 favorites with you today, I hope you’ll enjoy it!
Miss Hana x Choo Choo Cat Lip Balm
I’m going to start with my favorite product – this super cute paw print lip balm from Taiwanese brand Miss Hana. Before I get into the details, you’ve got to take a look at the advert. Despite not understanding a word of Mandarin, that sweet Scottish Fold kitty could convince me to buy whatever she’s selling!
Now that you’ve recovered from the cuteness overload, let’s take a look at what this product has to offer. Like a lot of Asian cosmetic brands, the packaging for the Miss Hana x Choo Choo Cat line is gorgeous. Choo Choo Cat is a character created by Korean company Jetoy. The Little Red Riding Hood variation featured on this lip balm is one of the more common designs.
As for the formula, it’s been designed to heal and protect lips from the harsh environment with super moisturising properties.
Ettusais Cat Cheek Color
Ettusais is a Japanese brand that I’ve only recently discovered, despite the fact that it’s been around for a long time (since 1991, actually). The name comes from the French phrase “et tu sais” meaning “and you know”.
They’ve recently released a couple of cat-themed items, including a lip crayon and two blushes. I think the blush is the cutest of the range. I’d almost be reluctant to use them as the poor kitties would get brushed away!
Unfortunately it only comes in two colors – pink and orange – both with a pearl powder base. Personally, I think these colors are too light for me but I’d buy it just for the novelty factor to display on my dresser.
SKIN79 – My Cat Perfume Hand Cream
Skin 79 is a well established Korean skincare company. Their products use ingredients from nature while also focussing on scientific innovations in their formula. Their packaging usually uses earthy, natural tones – a style I’m particularly fond of.
These kitty-themed hand creams are no exception. Made with shea butter and baobab tree extracts they keep your hands soft and smooth. I’m not really sure what the cats on the packaging have to do with the actual product. Although the creams are fragranced, the smell isn’t cat related (unlike this Japanese hand cream which is designed to smell like a cat’s paw). My only complaint is that out of the four breeds represented – Russian Blue, Persian, Munchkin and Ragdoll – neither of my pets’ breeds are included (pics of my cute British Shorthair and fluffy Siberian are on my blog).
Pure Smile “Will You Be A Cat” Sheet Mask
Pure Smile is a brand you’ll probably have seen if you’ve visited Japan or follow Japanese pop culture news at all. They’re most famous for their weird and wonderful sheet masks, including, of course, a cat!
I have tried a couple of these and to be honest they look pretty creepy and not very cat-like when you use them. However, they are very moisturising and make for a fun souvenir or cheap gift.
OkCat Milk Face Cream
Cats love drinking milk, despite the fact that they don’t tolerate lactose well. So I suppose the design of this product makes a bit more sense than the hand cream! The OkCat character was designed by kpop star Taecyeon (2PM) and can be found on everything from plushies to Kakao emoticons.
What’s inside the packaging? A face cream with whitening effects and real milk protein. Although the design is a novelty item most likely to be popular with fans of Taecyeon, the fact that they’ve teamed up with an existing cosmetics company (Costro) is reassuring. To be honest, I haven’t heard of this brand before but they seem to have some high end products as well as their youth line, Costagram.
